Although the internals of the SNZB-02P are very sophisticated, the functionality of the device is extremely simple. The SNZB-02P is ergonomically pleasing and has a nice weight to it.

Installing the device couldn’t be more simple. You don’t actually need to mount the device to use it, you can simply place it anywhere that you wish to measure temperature and humidity.

If you do want to mount it, for example to a wall, simply affix the included mounting plate in the desired location using either the included screw or 3M pad.

The unit itself has a magnet inside, so it will snap to the mounting bracket and stay in place. This means you can remove it and place it elsewhere if you wish.

To connect the device to your smart home, you simply need to remove plastic tab from product in order to connect the battery.

The device will power up, illuminating the red indicator LED. On first power up the device can be paired right away.

Connecting the SNZB-02P Sensor to SONOFF iHOST

I decided to first test the device with the SONOFF iHost Hub.

As both products are part of the SONOFF ecosphere, I expected this process to be very slick and easy to complete.

I was correct!

From the Home page I was able to click All Devices and then the ‘+‘ button to add a new device. The SNZB-02P was immediately detected and added to the iHost environment.

After leaving the SNZB-02P connected to iHost for some time, data starts to collect and the iHost produces graphs that show the change in values of temperature and humidity. Data can be viewed for a day, one month or six month period.

Setting up an automation couldn’t be easier when using the SNZB-02P with the iHost. You simply choose the SNZB-02P as the device in the scene condition and then enter a temperature or humidity value that you wish to use to trigger the automation.

In the example shown below I created a very simple alarm that triggers when the room temperature raises above 30°C.

You can also use humidity or a combination of both temperature and humidity to trigger the automation.

Next, we will take a look at the SNZB-01P Wireless Switch, an all-purpose on/off push button switch that can be assigned to do any task within the smart home which requires a push button operation.

Detailed Overview of the SNZB-01P Features

The SNZB-01P is a simple and elegant design, which is also very easy to use, especially if using it with the SONOFF iHost.

The switch has enough weight to be operated on a tabletop or desk without it slipping or flipping over, so mounting the switch is optional.

If you do wish to mount the switch, you can affix the supplied metal mounting plate to a surface using either the included screw or 3M sticky pad.

One of the most prominent features of the SNZB-01P is that it claims to have a whopping 5 year battery life.

It is difficult to comment on the validity of this feature without revisiting this review in 5 years time! However over a couple of days of rigorous testing, I have yet to see any movement in the battery meters for either the SNZB-01P or SNZB-02P.

I am also aware that if Zigbee is not configured correctly or there is some other technical problem, batteries in these types of devices can be exhausted in a matter of days!

Therefore my initial feelings on the claim to a 5 year battery life is that although it is not clear whether or not it can actually be achieved, I have high hopes that these SONOFF products will still have an impressive and very practical battery life.

Like with the SNZB-02P temperature and humidity sensor, the SNZB-01P is very easy to connect as it uses the Zigbee protocol, especially when using it with the iHost.

The SNZB-01P is able to identify a single press, double press or long press and these actions can be used to trigger different functions of the smart home.

For example, you could configure the SNZB-01P to turn a smart bulb on with a single press, off with a long press and to change color with a double press.

Therefore although the SNZB-01P features just one large push button, it is possible to carry three different actions with just a single button.

I like that the switch has this ability, as it sets it apart from a traditional non-smart switch. It is also very intuitive and easy for anyone to use.

Another nice touch is that the SNZB-01P is supplied with 6 stickers that represent functions that you could assign to the switch.

Overall the SNZB-01P is a great product that covers the necessary features that you would expect from a smart switch.

Perhaps the only minor criticism I have is that the switch action is a little ‘clicky’ and a softer feel to the switch press would have been nice.
